Mitch from Planet5D has published an article about the win of “Man of the soil” at the second IFFF, International Forest Film Festival.

Pierre Deschamps EOS Filmmaker wins major UN film award

I have recently been interviewed by Steve Fairclough , Editor at Canon Professional Network This article is related to the recent Best film award that I have got at the International Forest Film Festival and also about the new film documentary I am working on now. Man of the soil featured in the Living on Earth Radio show in the U.S.A

Invited by Steve Curwood on Living on Earth the weekly environmental news and information program distributed by Public Radio International Jan Mc Alpine the United Nations Forum on Forests Secretariat talks about some of the winner of the International Forest Film Festival including Man of the soil.

You can listen to the audio recording of the interview by clicking on the mp3 link in the Forest Films section on the same page.

CURWOOD: Now, the winner in the shorts category was ‘Nom, Tèw: Man of the Soil’- now, there’s no narration, but here’s a bit of the soundtrack:

McALPINE: It’s a wonderful movie. First of all, I really enjoyed watching a film with no voiceover. When judging the film, a lot of the films we saw – people were talking too much, and the story was often much more told through the visual – visual story. In this case, they didn’t. They showed this man who basically lives in the forest, and he is going and picking fruit and making soup or stew – and it’s just this beautiful…almost like a dance… about his interaction and his knowledge of his own backyard – it’s really beautifully done.

MAN OF THE SOIL Award Winning Film at the International Forests Film Festival

Award Winning Film

Man of the soil my short film is been selected as the winning film in the Short films category for the 2011 International Forest Film Festival.
This film was entirely shot with the Canon 5D MARKII and Canon Wide Range of lenses at the Beginning of 2009.

Special thoughts to my brothers Jerry Makawest and Jym Renaut who are together in Dominica at the moment I know after talking to them that they are going to share this prize the right way exactly where we shot the film. We together have shared a special moment and it is fantastic to see how a simple film can touch people. Only made in two days with a main crew of three Jerry, Jym and myself this film will have been difficult to make without the help of friends and family who dropped by on the set for minutes or hours to help carrying the gear, chat and look. So thanks to Gwen, joao, Pampo, Vlad and Etta and also Gordon and his family. Thanks also to Doud for his help on Jerry’s statement sound take, The Zam Zam Band , Tata Zongo and Ivan Michelson for providing us with their music creation FREE OF RIGHTS for the soundtrack.
In within 1 1/2 year the film is been selected to thirteen international film festivals including the prestigious International Berlin Film Festival and got me an Award for Best editing, a special motion for Best cinematography and finally today an Award for best film in the short films category at the International Forests Film Festival.

We hope that somehow this film will show the way and that everybody will take care of the forests the way Jerry does. This man would be a good example to many people.

I would like to mention that this wouldn’t have been possible without Mother Nature and its wonders and without Jerry and the way he is.

Thanks

The film festival is a key part of our outreach efforts of Forests 2011, and would enable us to raise awareness on the importance of forests, their relationship with people and the planet we share, and consequently, to inspire a sense of personal responsibility/stewardship for a greener, more equitable, sustainable future.

Happy New Year Jerry and Jym as you can see our adventure continues, the spirit is high brothers…
